Tell us a little about your relationship with yoga — both your practice and your teaching. I was first introduced to yoga 30 years ago as a dance major in college but I really stared practicing on my own, a few years later, after buying a Kathy Smith Yoga Video. Last year a yoga studio opened up in our town and I signed up for the teacher training class. At 51, I was the oldest and chubbiest person in the class . I’ll have to admit it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but I did it! My training was in Anusara Yoga. I have taught Restorative and I love Yin Yoga.
Why do you want to bring Curvy Yoga to your community? I have been every size imaginable. I know what it’s like to be ballerina thin and I know what it’s like to be overweight. I have struggled with food and weight issues my whole life. Im curvy myself so hopefully I can inspire others who may have felt too intimidated to try yoga. If I can do it … they can too!
What can folks expect when they take a class from you? I am new at teaching and still trying to find my own groove. We will all kind of be learning together. I love YIn Yoga and working on the wall. I’m somewhat unconventional so with all my dance training I might even throw in some barre work and belly dancing. Be ready for anything!
What has been your favorite part of the certification process? I love the simplicity of the course. Anna is readily available. I love that the classes are live with Anna but are also available on video if there are any complications.

Tell us a little about your relationship with yoga — both your practice and your teaching. When I first began practicing yoga in 2011 I immediately felt at both at peace on my mat and at the same time frustrated by what I perceived to be the limitations of my body. I found myself trying to figure out how to adapt poses on my own, which sometimes worked and other times did not. Often in class I felt like I was struggled with how to make my body look like everyone else’s (note to self, it didn’t, and never will, and that is ok!) Finding Curvy Yoga online was such a blessing, and it is not at all an understatement to say that the Curvy Yoga Teacher Training with Anna in Nashville was a life changing experience.
Why do you want to bring Curvy Yoga to your community? Minneapolis has no shortage of great yoga instructors, but I think it is important to have a space where everyone knows they are welcome even before they walk in the door. My hope is to provide a space where everyone feels safe and supported in exploring their own personal yoga practice.
What can folks expect when they take a class from you? In so many photos you seem a room full of nearly identical students holding exactly the same pose, and while it may be lovely to look at, in my experience it is not realistic. Each class and every student is encouraged to take the modifications they desire to experience the pose where they are on any given day, whether that is supported by a wall or a chair, on the mat using blocks or straps. Together we will explore many options, knowing that we each bring unique strengths and challenges to yoga.
Also, folks can expect laughter. I laugh a lot and I laugh loudly. I want yoga, and life, to be joyful for us all.
What has been your favorite part of the certification process? Is it wrong to say my favorite part of YTT is all of it? Getting to know Anna, and the other students in my program was incredible. Discovering that I love Nashville was an unexpected surprise. Deepening my personal practice has been fantastic, but most importantly finding I now have the ability to share Curvy Yoga with others, has been the best part.
